Reading pitta without self-diagnosing
Pitta is the dosha classical Ayurveda associates with heat, sharpness and transformation — digestion above all. It is the largest of the three shelves here, which reflects how much of the Kerala materia medica is cooling in character rather than anything about how common the tendency is.
The framework is a reasoning tool for a physician, and it works poorly as a self-assessment. That is why there is no quiz on this page. What is here is the group of preparations Kerala practice has traditionally drawn on where pitta is the consideration — forty-five taken by mouth, eighteen applied to the skin. Coconut -based kera thailams appear more often on this shelf than on the other two, which is the classical logic showing through: coconut sits cooler than sesame.
Three things worth knowing here
- Cooling is the through-line — Coconut bases, bitter herbs and preparations taken before food recur across this shelf.
- Most of it is internal — Two thirds are taken by mouth, so the label and its schedule matter more here than on the oil shelves.
- A physician narrows it — Sixty-nine is far too many to choose between unaided. Free consultation is the shortcut.
Always read the label and directions on the pack you receive, and speak with your physician before starting anything new — particularly if you are pregnant, nursing, managing a health condition or taking prescription medicine.
