Our Ranges

The ranges

One factory, five ranges, and the differences are real

Everything here is made in the same Kerala plant, but what a preparation answers to differs — a classical text, Kairali's own formulary, or neither. Worth knowing which you are buying.

What the distinction actually means

A classical preparation follows a recipe set down in an Ayurvedic text. The ingredients and their proportions are not the manufacturer's to change, and that constraint is the point of the tradition — it is what makes Dhanwantharam Thailam from one maker comparable to another's. A proprietary preparation is the maker's own: developed in house, using the same materials and the same methods, but answering to Kairali rather than to a text.

Neither is better than the other, and Kairali makes both deliberately. What matters is that the difference is stated rather than blurred, which is why the ranges below have separate shelves instead of being mixed into one catalogue.

The classical range

137 preparations

The thailams, kashayams and their tablets, the gulikas, choornams and lehams — made to named textual formulae. Sixty-six carry a recorded classical source on their product page. This is the oldest part of what Kairali does and the reason the rest exists.

Proprietary Medicines

17 preparations

Kairali's own formulations, developed by the R&D division rather than taken from a text. Named for their purpose rather than in Sanskrit, and mostly capsules and syrups — formats chosen for a modern routine rather than inherited from one.

Proprietary Organics

19 preparations

The Kair-prefixed oils, serums and cosmetics — Kairoil, Kairheal, Kaircin, Kairkare, Kairtis. Kairali's own external range, plant-based and made without synthetic actives. Organics here describes how they are formulated, not a certification; where a certification applies it is stated on the product's own page.

Kair by Kairali

15 products

The everyday cosmetics line: shampoos, shower gels, soaps and face washes. Rinse-off products for daily use rather than preparations with a course to complete. They exist because the classical sequence is oil first and wash second — and a strong detergent strips off more than the oil you applied.

Herbal infusions

5 blends

Kairali's own caffeine-free blends of herbs and spices — Yuvan, Taahira and the combination packs. An infusion is steeped and drunk rather than boiled and reduced, so it is an everyday drink rather than a preparation with a dose. Gentler than a kashayam, and correspondingly lighter in what it does.

Books

3 titles

Written by Gita Ramesh, Joint Managing Director and an Ayurvedic chef and scholar. The dietary side of Ayurveda is a discipline in its own right and is poorly served by product pages.

Always read the label and directions on the pack you receive, and speak with your physician before starting anything new — particularly if you are pregnant, nursing, managing a health condition or taking prescription medicine.
