Dhanwantharam Thailam is a medicated oil, prepared to the formula recorded in Sahasrayogam Thaila Prakarana.
Classically it belongs to the vata group of preparations used where the joints and muscles are the concern — stiffness, restricted movement and the ordinary aching that comes with age or hard use. Its named constituents include ashwagandha, shatavari, amla, bala.
It is traditionally warmed and worked into the skin, not taken by mouth. Preparations of this kind are judged over weeks rather than days.
