What this shelf is, and what it is not
Classical Ayurveda does not approach body weight as a thing to be acted on directly. It reasons about digestion, about the strength of agni, and about the routine a person keeps — and the preparations gathered here are the ones Kerala practice has traditionally drawn on when that is the line of thinking. Twelve of the sixteen are taken by mouth.
Which means this page cannot honestly be read as a shortcut, and we are not going to present it as one. Nothing here substitutes for what you eat and how much you move, and no preparation on this shelf is offered as a treatment for any condition. If weight is something you are managing with a doctor, bring this list to them rather than running it in parallel — several of these are taken with food and some have interactions worth checking.
Three honest expectations
- It is an adjunct — These are taken alongside diet and movement. On their own they are not the intervention.
- Digestion is the classical target — The reasoning runs through agni and digestion rather than through weight directly.
- Check it with your doctor — Particularly if you are already being treated. Bring the list rather than adding to it quietly.
Always read the label and directions on the pack you receive, and speak with your physician before starting anything new — particularly if you are pregnant, nursing, managing a health condition or taking prescription medicine.
